I’ve spent the last 9 years touring in motorhomes and caravans, so I understand exactly what owners need from a reliable habitation service.
Before starting Essex Habitation Check, I worked in the mechanical and electrical trade for 29 years, working on standby generators from the engine to the alternator producing 415v, giving me the technical background and attention to detail that every inspection deserves.
I’m based in Essex and run this as an independent mobile service. I originally looked into joining a franchise, but after seeing the prices they charge — and what I have been paying myself over the years — it didn’t sit right with me. I knew I could offer the same high‑quality service without the inflated costs. Opening Essex Habitation check and being solely mobile reduces my outlay to run the business and focus on passing the cost savings onto the customer.
Another thing that stood out to me was that many people joining the big franchises have little or no background in the touring industry. With my own hands‑on touring experience and technical trade behind me, I felt I could provide a more knowledgeable, practical, and customer‑focused service. I am a member of the MCEA, and have been trained to a high standard to ensure all works are carried out correctly and safely.

I am IOSH qualified which is an intensive HSE examined course for individuals working in potentially hazardous environment's, also trained in Working at Heights, giving you confidence that all work is completed to recognised safety standards. Whether I’m inspecting gas systems, electrics, water systems, or roof‑mounted equipment, every step is carried out with care and competence.
All tools and testing equipment — from torque wrenches to multimeters — are calibrated yearly to ensure accuracy and reliability during every inspection. This means you receive a precise, dependable assessment every time.
